As an Analysis and Safety Engineer at Yuri, you will be responsible for the engineering analysis and simulation of innovative hardware for microgravity research and space biotech applications.
You will use advanced simulation methods to support the design, development, verification, and qualification of payloads and spaceflight hardware. Your main focus will be on structural and thermal analysis and space safety engineering, with the opportunity to also contribute to computational fluid dynamics (CFD).
A particularly important part of the role is the assessment of hardware safety and structural integrity for spaceflight applications. This includes standard structural analyses like static and dynamic load analysis as well as vibration analyses but extends to safety critical analyses such as fracture mechanics and crack growth, as well as supporting compliance with applicable NASA, ESA and ISS safety requirements.
You will work closely with our mechanical, systems, electronics, software, science, and mission teams to turn simulation results into robust, flight-ready designs.

YOUR TASKS:
Structural & Thermal Simulation: Perform FEA (static strength, stiffness, modal analysis, buckling, vibration, fatigue) and steady-state/transient thermal analyses using ANSYS (or comparable tools). Knowledge in the use of ESACRACK/NASGRO for mechanics, crack growth and fatigue analyses is beneficial.
Space Safety: Lead the safety review process with respective authorities (NASA, ESA, SpaceX, implementation partners) in Phases 0/I/II/III and re-flight assessments acc. SSP 30599 or similar.
Compliance: Ensure compliance with NASA (e.g., SSP 57000, SSP 51721) and relevant ECSS Q-40 safety requirements, and prepare analysis/verification documentation for agency reviews.
Design Optimization: Correlate simulation results with test data to improve models. Work closely with mechanical/systems engineers to translate requirements into verifiable designs.
CFD (Optional but preferred): Perform computational fluid dynamics analyses for thermal and fluid management.
Design Reviews: Support design modifications in CAD (SolidWorks) and contribute to technical reviews (PDR, CDR, TRR) and qualification activities.
WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED:
Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical/Aerospace Engineering or a similar discipline.
Experience: Several years of professional experience in structural/thermal simulation within the aerospace or highly regulated sectors.
Tools: Strong proficiency in ANSYS Mechanical/Workbench. Good knowledge of CAD (SolidWorks).
Safety/Fracture (highly desired but not mandatory): Proven experience with spaceflight safety engineering, hazard analyses, and fracture mechanics/crack growth tools (ESA Crack, NASGRO).
Standards (highly desired but not mandatory): Familiarity with NASA (SSP 57000, SSP 51721, SSP 30599) or ECSS standards.
Skills: Strong analytical problem-solving skills, ability to document analyses traceably, and fluent English communication (German is a plus).
Nice-to-Have: Direct experience with ISS payload safety reviews, coupled thermo-fluid simulations, or Python/ANSYS scripting.
